Lomovskaya icon of the Mother of God

(the celebration takes place on 12/25 of June)

According to the legend The “Lomovskaya” Icon of the Mother of God was found in the waters of the Ugra river. The broken up parts of the image, not fastened, were making their way in the waters together and that explains its name. From the old times the icon is widely venerated both in the Kaluga’s lands and far from these places due to a lot of miracles and cures. Read the rest of this entry »

On April 3, 1993 five nuns from Maloyaroslavetz’s Women’s Monastery came to Baryatino village; the first idea was to organize a small agricultural community. However, it appeared practicable to set up an independent new community and on December 26, 1995 Holy Synod blessed to set up the monastery in Honor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God (Bogorodichno-Rozhdestvenskaya devichya pustyn) in Baryatino of Kaluga’s region and appointed nun Feofila (Lepeshinskaya) as Abbess; later she was granted the title of  Mother Superior (Hegumeness).
